Physics forms a bedrock for the other natural sciences. It addresses an impressive range of phenomena, from subatomic particles to the observable universe. The physics department at Centenary serves the entire campus community, with course offerings that range from conceptual physics for non-majors, to advanced seminars for physics majors. Students of physics use models of particles and waves to identify common patterns in systems that initially seem to have little in common.

Physics majors pursue various career paths. Some apply their skills to data science, while others work in science education. Many go on to graduate coursework in either physics or engineering. The Physics Department works with the Math Department to oversee Centenary's 3/2 Engineering program, an innovative program that lets students obtain a Bachelor of Arts degree from Centenary in conjunction with a Bachelor of Science from one of our ABET-accredited partner institutions.

The department emphasizes a relaxed atmosphere of free exchange between students and professors. To make physics fun for everyone, the department annually sponsors a Physics and Chemistry Circus.
